TII engine > GXL

first of all, I did search and read the FAQ, but I didn't really find what I was looking for.

I'm considering buying an S4 GXL with a Turbo II swap in it. The guy I might be buying it from hasn't done the swap yet, but plans to very soon. He bought a brand new TII engine from rotary resurection and is putting it in the GXL with the stock GXL driveline.

He says that the GXL is basically the same as the Tubo II except for the engine. Is this true?? Do the turbo's and GXL's have the same exact driveline? I've read that it is better to do a whole driveline swap with the turbo engine, but that wouldn't be necessary on a GXL is it has the same components right?

If they are different, what is the difference? And would there be any potential problems with the stock GXL driveline?

Turbo2 drivetrain is totally different! Heavier duty transmission, rear end, and drive shaft....non of the parts actually resemble N/a parts at all. Also the suspension is totally diff as well.

You're likely to strip a few gears if you're not careful... buy it without the T2 swap.

leave the back end of the drive train, unless u have donner car. But change the transmission. Try to get a S5 tranny. and buy the driev shaft from racing beat, and u will be good to go. This is what i did. I havea 86 GXl, i swap the engoine and tranny. and linked it to my old drivetrain.

That's not possible.

He might be able to that for me, he has a TII project car sitting right next to his GXL.

Quote "and buy the driev shaft from racing beat,". How much did the drive shaft cost? I tried thier site and I can't find it. I just bought an '89 turbo tranny for my '86 n/a. Will the turbo driveshaft bolt up to the n/a rearend? Somebody please inform.

the NA tranny will work with the TII engine. How long it will work depends on how you drive it. You are likely to break something on the NA driveline if you do frequent hard launches. You will probably have a hell of a time keeping that clutch from slipping at WOT as well. Buy a TII transmission if at all possible.
