Yep, both inner and outer can be changed with the rack in the car

you need to buy a Tie rod tool. This is a long socket with interchangable ends. With this tool is a piece of cake to remove the tie rods.

I once changed a tierod in a volvo by extending it one was and filling the ball and socket with weld. I then gently tapped on the end counter clockwise and it came right out.

what symptoms are you experiencing that makes you believe it's the inner tie rod? i'm currently experiencing a clunking in my left front, i thought it was the new strut not being seated properly so i compressed it took it all apart put it back together, if i hold the tie rod with my fingers and have someone lightly rock the steering wheel back and forth i can feel the clunk also. are you experiencing something similar? just looking for more info

ITS ******* BENT, its clearly visable, the car was wrecked on that side everything is fucked, hopefully just swapping tie rods will fix it.

Outer Tie rod? If it is you can smack the knuckle that it bolts to, after taking the nut off, with a hammer a few times and it will eventually pop off.

will that damage anything? hitting it like that? because i'd rather not have the new one "pop-off" while i'm doing some spirited driving

No, it shouldn't damage anything. It may put a dent in the knuckle, which should be very strong, but it shouldn't damage anything. That's how I've always taken off outer tie rods, with no bad results... Or you can just keep the car on jackstands, and slowly raise a jack underneath the threads of the tie rod deally, and it should come right out. A few thousand pounds does wonders :P
