Oh its comming from the bearing. I can hear it in the housing just sqeaking away through all the higher gears.

Something else I should be looking into?

mine squeaks, so I'm replacing it. So there

I was unsure of the condition of the clutch, and my throwout bearing gets louder every day, so I figured it was time for a clutch job. Most people just do it all if they're tearing into it anyways.

You shouldn't hear the t/o bearing when riding with clutch pedal up. The t/o bearing isn't turning. It only turns when clutch depressed, UNLESS there is no play in the pedal and then the bearing is turning all the time, which will destroy it in short time. Make certain the is play in the pedal.

Well I can hear the drive rubbing on the bearing. It was not greased properly upon reinstallation, which was my fault.

Turbonut, I dont get the last part of your post.
Right now, when you depress the clutch, the sound goes away. When it is back out and running through the gears you can hear it winning.

So if it is turning when the clutch is out and in gear, what would cause this?

PILOT BEARING is taking a crap...fix it before it disintegrates & scores up the tranny input shaft...

On my previous rx7, when the t/o bearing was noisy, I replaced the slave cylinder and the noise went away. It was not retracting all the way.

If you depress the clutch pedal and it becomes noisy in neutral, it is the pilot. If you let off the clutch pedal and you get the noise it is the throwout bearing.

actually, upon further insightful daydreaming, here's the scenario: with the clutch engaged (peddle out), the pilot bearing is spinning the same speed as eccentric and tranny input shaft, therefore it is not spinning per se relative to the two...when the clutch peddle is depressed, the fork arm throws the (not spinning)throwout bearing into the pressure plate, commencing an instant spinup of said bearing, and the pilot bearing will start spinning due to the fact that the tranny input shaft, now "disconnected" from the eccentric, will start a slow down (relative to engine speed), and will stop turning alltogether if the clutch is held in long enough, at this point the pilot bearing will be spinning as fast as the eccentric, but in the opposite direction...get all that?

Ok, it only sqeakes when driving. When in gear with clutch engauged.

It makes no souds with the clutch out (petal to the floor).

Ill replace both for the sake of wear and tear.
Anyone have a picture of the pilot bearing? I have a replacment from mazda, just want to see where it sits.

When I swaped trannys, the little actuator fell out, I put it back and bled the clutch....
Wounder if its not sitting right......

if you're disengaging the clutch when the pedal is pushed, the slave should be O.K....that front tranny bearing(s) could also be suspect...
