throttle responce sux and turbo is glowing.

ok... for those of you who know me, yu know i have been battleing all kinds of timing related problems.

well tonight i set my timing to the "marks" on the pulley per the fsm. My marks are not the stock red and yellow, they are chisle notches.

setting my timing fixed my idle but created some other problems:

1: now i only pull 14" of vac at ~750 idle.(was 18" before at 1k idle)

2: runs crazy rich, dosent smoke at idle but smokes black on shift and deceling when i let off. lots of back-fire's but no flames.

3: Turbo AND 3"DP glow red after only a couple times through the gears.

2: Throttle responce sucks now. Car dosent accel at about 1%-20% throttle (thats my guess on %) it hesitates and runs a bit rough when at this throttle possition.

Question... is the turbo glow normal? how do i fix my throttle responce? If its so rich why no flames?

The only input I can offer is. What is your new idle? If it isn't 1000rpm you cant compare it to the old " of HG reading.

Different vacuum at different rpms.

And you car sounds sick!

Just an idea. You changed your timing. do you need to change your fuel? Does timing change change everything else?

14 at idle isnt terrible, in fact, its pretty normal.

680s without an SAFC or something to that affect are going to give you some MEAN richness at speed...Did you expect anything less?

Turbo glowing is BAD NEWS... That means either your timing is off, or your clogged down the line. Did you set the idle with the car at 800 rpms?

It is normal for EXTENDED hard driving to make the turbo glow. It should not be happening with just a few spirited runs. I would make absolutely sure that the timing marks on the pully are set right, and that you have the correct pully. Also, timing MUST be set at 750 RPM.

i set the timing at 750... its exactly at the marks.

but i dont know if the marks are right, someone put them there with a chisle. the car ran great before with all kinds of low end torque. but i thought that was because of the timing being advanced. now i dont know.

now the car puffs bluish smoke when i change gears. it only does it when i boosted that gear. i see no smoke at idle.

**how can i findout where my timing is. the marks might not be right....

my cold start warm up feature used to go to 3000 with the timing set where it was before. now it struggles to get to 2500.

i think i need to set the timing back to where it was.

or maybe bump it up some.

i checked some stuff ***update***

ok today i check a few things:

compression on fron rotor 110, 3 "wooshes"

compression on rear rotor 120. 3 "wooshes"

so my motor is still good! YAY!

compresser side is all i could check of the turbo and it spins freely and has no play. turbo has not leaked oil.. it was my roommaes car.

when i check timing with a light the coil pack closest to the fire wall does not make the timing light flash!?! strange.

now what do i do. im sure the plugs are fouled now.

your poor throttle response, low vacuum, and glowing turbo all point to incorrect timing or at least lack of timing advance. Continue troubleshooting the ignition, I think you will find your problem(s).

i raised the timing to where it was. i have no idea where it is now but the car runs good.

how hard is it to replace the main "crank" pulley? if i did that i would have marks to go by.

thanks for the help guys.
