I had some help over the phone so I'm not one to talk but...

If you go and have a look at it, you should be able to see what's going on. Coolant flows through the TB you want to stop this so you just bypass the TB. Run a coolant line from underneath the TB on the rotor housing, to the BAC valve, Then too the back of the water pump. Once you get under there and have a look everything will make sense.

I had ReTed on IM when I was cursing my damn double throttle plates. And he was on IM when I was saying, "This sucks with my finger holding the JB weld in while it dries". Then he says, "Put tape where your finger is". I was like, "Your smart". Ted is the MAN!

What are the DISadvantages of the TBM? Mazda engineers obviously had it in there for a reason. So if you do this, then SOMETHING has to go wrong...

It wont hold an idle until the engine gets warm, when its below about 50 degrees outside.

What do you mean "won't hold an idle" I live in MN and 5/12 of the months are below 50 degrees....

So would this be a worthwhile mod?

You will have to sit out there and baby the throttle till it gets warmed up a bit before it will idle on its own. Thats why the coolant runs through the TB in the first place. When it reaches an acceptable temp, the throttle plates that you would be removing stop holding the idle and let the others take over (very simplified explanation).

I live in Canada I know about cold weather. After the TB mod in cold weather the car fires up, holds idle at 1500rpm, after a few minutes it drops to a rock steady 750.

Other than the slight bog when you get on it at low rpms i see no dissadvantge to this mod. Just cause Mazda designed something one way does not mean it's the best way.

If you look back a few posts I mentioned if you still have your BAC you can turn on your AC. That will hold idle.
