THoughts on Block sealer to fix blown coolant seals?

What does everyone think of this, i have heard by two other fc owners that it will patch up bad or blown coolant seals. Is this true?

It's not recommended to do so, and if you do it, it's only temporary. All this will do is create more problems if and when the engine is taken apart to be rebuilt.

The above is true. I didn't even get block sealer to work at all and just pulled the motor. I would imagine if the leak was very small it would work.......until your radiator hose blows up when the leak gets its revenge.

haha, well i wasnt planning on usiong it my engine has alreeady been pulled and i am just thinking jesus, 23$ each for the larger rings and 7each for the smaller ones, and i am building two engines, so times both those by eight and i was wondering if it was even worth doing it properly. Does anyone know of any better places to buy the coolant seals seing it is going to be around 300cdn to get them from the dealer?

thanks

You can get an entire OEM o-ring "kit" from Mazdatrix for 160 or 170 something. Comes with water seals and all o-rings except the oil seal rings.

Or you can get the Rotary Aviation (bit harder to fit, requires some stretching) o-ring kit for like 150 bucks or something, and it comes with more stuff.

I dont mean to hijack...but I was wondering....

Which would be the better route to go?

Mazdatrix: http://www.mazdatrix.com/b2.htm
Engine Gasket Set (which includes the o-ring set and all gaskets) $181.58
Front Ecentric Seal $4.33
Rear Ecentric Seal $9.32
Rear Gear o-ring $6.19
Pilot Bearing $9.41
Pilot Bearing Seal $2.41

for a grand total of $213.24 before S&H

OR

Rotary Aviation: http://www.rotaryaviation.com/engine_products.htm
Gasket Set $48
O-ring Set $153

Grand total of $210 before S&H

The reason I ask and posted specifics, is because I dont know what all the seals look like and what they are called, and neither site really explains in detail what all is in the sets. So I dont know if one set has more things than the other. I know there are pilot bearings in the mazdatrix package but I dont see anything about them in the RA package.

Of course this is if all seals(apex) and springs are within spec when I tear my engine apart. If they arent, it changes the whole scheme of things.

Thanks for the help and sorry for the hijack, but it's on the same lines as the original question.

i say go with mazdatrix
for the fact that seemingly you wont have to stretch any seals or any thing
just my personal opinion

I have done it to my Rx-7 twice. They last about 1 year of normal driving. Its only temporary and you should be planning to do a rebuild during that time.
