thought I blew my motor haha

so I'm sitting at a stoplight in my 90 TII, when just out of the blue it stalls.. I was like wtf!

start it up and it's running on one rotor... drive to a service station about 1km away , runs on one rotor the whole time... look at the gauges, OH, no gas... put gas in, magically it works on 2 rotors again!

So the moral of the story is, uhh, buy gas!

I would have been /seriously/ pissed if this motor died, 4000 KM brand new crate engine from mazda for $6000.. luckily it's still under warranty, 125PSI compresson and bone stock so they'd be fixing it, but still, that would've just killed me inside.

anyways, just thought I'd share.. anyone else have a similar experience with their car sounding/feeling "dead" and it turning out to be something stupid?

$6000 for a motor that's a lot of cash, once it wouldn't start finally got it to start and it was just throwing the biggest smoke screen in history I thought for a second it was burning coolant, it really just flooded but it was wierd because it never did that before or after that.

Once my engine kept dying at stop lights and bucking. I didn't know what was going on. I noticed it would happen alot while I had the A/C on. When I lifted the hood I saw that the positive cable was making contact w/ the A/C belt and pretty much burned it straight through! I replaced it and everything was OK.
Another time my car wouldn't start and I thought I had either low compression or a fuel issue because it would act like it was just about to start but couldn't get there. I'm a hypochondriac when it comes to my car so I started buying things off ebay like crazy. New injectors, a fuel pump, fuel rails, electrical ****, all that stuff to overhaul the entire fuel system and then pay for a rebuild if needed. So I began installing everything starting with the fuel pump and I decided to see if it would start. I cranked the engine and it started like nothing was ever wrong with it. I was happy, but pissed off because now I had $300+ worth of parts that didn't need to be installed. I think I'll install the rest of it as a summer project.

better change your fuel filters. No telling how much trash you picked up out of the bottom of the tank.

Just two days ago I was helping a buddy trouble-shoot his spark-timing and I wanted to compare it to the firing on my Turbo II. I went over to my TII and attempted to start it. Anyways, it didn't start so I rolled my eyes and kept cranking with my foot of the floor (R-Tek 1.7) So yeah, I kept cranking and after about 10 seconds I got frusterated and started pumping the pedal to make sure it was down all the way. It didn't start, so I pulled the EGI Comp. fuse and resumed my tight-lipped cranking. I said screw this and compression-started my car. Well, it started up and blew some smoke. I held the revs at 3k RPM's to help clear out the fuel I knew was in there. It wouldn't hold an idle, so I drove around the block to 'clear' the fuel out. I guess I flooded this worse than I've ever experienced, becacuse I started to get worried because it was bucking, sounded like it was on one-rotor and would idle at 200RPM's. It did this for a WHILE and I was getting pretty pissed because I thought the fuel was fully cleared out and now something else was wrong and I had no idea...

A few minutes later I took it out and it was fine. I was quite relieved...

haha, I'd never pay $6k.

Previous owner did.

Go to your mazda dealer.

Tell them you want a new motor for your 1990 TII. New Irons, New housings, New rotors, New apex seals, New dipstick, oil pump, oil pan, e-shaft, flywheel, clutch, turbocharger, injectors, etc... see what it costs you.

My guess is $6000 CDN.

So yeah, I would've been sooo upset if it had died, probably never would have driven an rx7 again, cos like wtf. But it didn't, all is well with the universe.

In other news, I compression tested my ported rebuild today and was /very/ happy with the results
