Talking for those of you wondering why our cars weigh so much...

yeah... Ever felt the glove box door? Well, I took mine off and it was SURPRISINGLY heavy for a plastic interior peice.

SO, I took it apart.... there are SEVERAL STEEL plates welded together in there. Put it on my scale, SIX POUNDS! Not sure if I could live without a glove box door, but they do weigh alot... what was Mazda thinking?

probably just reinforcements so that you dont have interior pieces rattling around at every bump you hit. I mean, my car is 16 years old, and I can fly down a bumpy *** pothole filled road, and guess what.....not one squeak, rattle, or sound coming from anywhere. Its really solid. So if they needed to make a few steel reinforcements for that...thats ok by me Its better than aot of new cars out there. My friend had a '93 Probe GT. It was a really nice car, Ill try and find some pictures to post, it was one of the nicest probes Ive seen. But the hatch squaked and rattled ALOT..interior plastic trim "squeaks", just really annoying stiff that made the car feel kind cheap. My FC feels alot more solid, and I love that.

Dashboards and their related components are quite heavy in modern cars. They have steel structures covered in dense foam and plastic to protect us in an accident.
Have you ever ridden in an old car w/ sheetmetal dash- very light and strong, but not so good on your head in an accident (coupled w/ the fact that they often only have lap belts, doubling your chances of slamming the dash and not the windshield!)

Are you serious? My car squeaks in about a million different places. Every little bump causes an annoying squeak. In my opinion, the interior quality of our cars is not very good. Especially all the brittle plastic pieces.

I agree some of the brittle plastic pieces kinda suck...but overall my car feels very solid. There are relatively little squeaks or vibrations.

My car has no squeaks nor rattles, even at 163k miles. A squeaking, rattling RX-7 is one that has been driven by a punk or two, a person that drives like they'll get another car as soon as they wear out the current one.

Your car's condition is a good reflection of how you live and of your intelligence.

You guys have cupholders????

I sure don't.

Not that I would need them. My lap works just fine.

Yup, I've got a 93 Probe GT also. Those squeek like an SOB!!! It's because it has a large non enforced hatch area. A rear strut bar rids of that though. And for as much as those pigs weigh you'd think they would not squeek/rattle as much as they do. I mean mine used to weigh almost 3,000lbs!!!

Crash protrection? Who needs it? I'm all about bumper supports, but stuff in the dash? No... I'll get rid of all that gargabe. There are a lot of sound deadening things in cars these days. I'd rather live with the squeeks personally.

Your hatch squeeks with new springs? Are you sure it is the hatch? (well, not really called a hatch).

Try a rear strut bar as I was saying....
