for those of you w/ indiglo gauges

I am about to install my guage cluster after removing it and installing the white faced guages (ebay). My main question is what wire do you attach the red wire to that comes from the transistor box of the guages. Is it the same as the write up on fc3s.org or different because theirs was not turbo? Mine is also an s4 not an s5 does that make a difference basically which wire do i connect the guages to?
thanx alot

I just spliced my red wire into the one for the tail lights out of the light switch. There's prolly a better way, but it works for me.

the red wire from the trasnformer is a constant power. The black is a constant ground. I took my head light switch plug and a test light. I turnd my headlights off and tested all the wires for a 12V+ and then I turned them ON and tested again to finde a 12V+ this tells you what wire is only hot when the headlights are on. I then did the reversal I pluged the test light into the 12V+ constant and then taped around for the ground of course this is the B wire. I then depined these wires and soderd the transformer wires onto the end of the wires that go into the harness clip. I then ran the switch for them under the dash and adhesived it to the plastic with the air vent buy your legs. The reson you do it this way is ushaly wheen you turn your lights on the guages will pop on. You still need the switch hooked up to a switch b/c some times they dont. This is b/c they were porly designed. They run off of a 2 way switch and a transformer. You will need a 3 way switch do this idealy. However when they transformer is powerd on suddenly they ushaly switch on.

does anyone remeber the color of the wire that they used? or have a pic of which wire they connected it to. I am guessing its the red/black wire that is the third up on the left side of the light switch plug. is this correct?

Maybe this is too simple, but why not use the illumination light for your radio? That's a safe bet that it's on when the lights are on, and it should be easy to find using the faq. Most of the aftermarket radios I've installed don't have the illumination light anyway, and even if it does, the low voltage lights in the gauge cluster shouldn't blow your fuse.

When you look at the plug there are two wires that are heavier gauge than the rest. Black and red. The wire directly next to the red wire is (if my memory serves me) red with a yellow? stripe... Whatever color it is, that's the one you want for your red wire. Then you can just use the thicker black wire for your ground.

By the way, you will probably want to paint your needles red or orange or something. White on white doesn't show up too well. I just used a red permanent marker. I attached a pic for ya.

Good luck man!

The illumination line for the radio is a dimmable line. If you turn your dash lights down just a little bit, the gauge faces turn off. I had mine hooked up similar to this. I screwed the red line into an illumination terminal on the back of the gauge cluster. It took me a while to figure out why my gauges wouldn't come on. I hooked mine into the line that controlls the tail/marker lights, because it's not dimmed, and it's the first lights on the control. One artistic touch I added id I painted the clear plastic that illuminates the front of the gauges red. It looks perty cool at night, even with the gauges off. If I can get my camera working, I'll take a picture.

i tied mines to the wire that turns on the light in the speedometer in the light swtich. no problems and it doesnt dim out. though i hav to dim the lights inside the cluster to see the indiglo better. as for the needles i left them white cuz i was jus too lazy to paint them. but at night i can tell how fast i'm going cuz of the shadow that moves on the glo. i wouldnt recommend splicing with the cigarette bulb - not enought power. i have the glo gauge for the logicon spliced with the cig. and it flickers. looks ok but it'd be nice to get a constant light instead of gettin a epiletic seziure.

the gauges work well, when they are first on, but after a couple of minutes from being on they start to flicker, and sometimes i have this little weak beep noise that seems like i left the lights on, but its much weaker, any help on this?

Sounds like they are hooked up to an inverted source, a dimmer

I had indiglo's in my VW Jetta and hooked them up to a dimmed power source, they did exactly this.

Try finding a constant 12v source to hook them up to that will be switched on with the headlights (unless you want to make your own switch.)

Its pulling too hard on the stock wiring. Or you wired it into the circuit with teh stock variable resistor (dimmer switch).

I wired mine off a relay that clicks on with the parking lights. I haven't had a bit of trouble.

it most likely pulling, because, they lights havent burnt out yet, and i did wire the lights to the red/green wire coming from the plug in the back, i cut that wire and spliced the end coming from the harness w/ the red risistor wire.

I bought some indiglo gauges off ebay and when i went to install them, as i was pulling off the needles to the boost, fuel, and temp gauges, the whole pin came out and now they don't work at all.

Does anyone know how to fix this? Or how to prevent it from happening on a new gauge cluster?
