My swap went ok. I, like everyone else it seems, had the fuel lines reversed, but this was not obvious at first. I Marked the front hose on the car, but not on the engine I took out assuming it was the same. WRONG, the engine was attached to an auto in the car it was removed from and the fuel lines on the spider are reversed... So, fixed that and it tried and tried, but still didn't run. Fuel was dripping from the exhaust.. Made a code reader, diagnosis: Water Thermo sensor, WTF? Where the F is it?? Looked behind the water neck, the bitch was busted in half! Swapped it with my old one and it cranked on the first try. Then it was idling at 2700? Loosened throttle cable, and took care of that.

The best part was the removal of the engines from my car and the donor and installing into my car all took place in the dead of winter outside! 23 degree days with lots of wind. Once it fired up, I cranked up the heat, lol.

BTW, I tried several times unsuccessfully to put the engine in with the transmission still in the car. That wouldn't work for me. So I just pulled the tranny, stuck it on the engine and dropped it in whole.

Vince

taking the tranny out is more work... Unless you want both engine and tranny out! i took the engine out and put another back in with no help whatsoever, had no problems. thanks to a friend that reminded me to take the pilot bearing out, went slow took my time. dropped it in few inches at a time. while i go back and check to make sure nothing is binding. also i didnt remove power stearing or anything just moved things aside, makes it go faster, But basicly its a two day job.. maybe besides ordering parts, and changing stuff over to the other engine, But it took me like a month, cause i didnt work on it more than an hour at a time, BUT tonight i got it to turn over for the first time.. i checked to make sure oil is flowing and comp is good, sounds like its ok. pulses are even no diffrence at all.. sounds very even.. Now hope toi get it going tomorrow, wish me luck,

of the both motors i droped in before, they both started right up.... the first one had a semi decent oil leak that i thought i took care of but missed...

the second one was seeping water a little bit around the s5 plastic filler neck, i tighten that up and no leak, and it had no oil leaks either!!! w00t....

I started up my engine for the first time since I have owned it last Sunday.

Idled like a champ, after emissions removed and change to s5 turbo. but... haha but... found I had a coolant leak... waterpump damn gotta replace that.

oh and it wouldnt shut off ended up pulling the plug wires and in the process reminding myself in a shocking way to wire up the alternator correst next time haha

primed oil and stuff first, good idea. and pulled g/b put engine then lifted up g/b to the engine, was a bitch till I realised I needed to tilt the engine back, then no sweat.

Full charge the battery.
Recheck everything - twice.
Crank it with no EGI fuse to prime the oil & fuel. Check for leaks.
Fire it up with the exhaust pipe off for maximum sound.
(Very satisfying after all that work)
Hook up the downpipe.
Tune it up.

That reminds me...I just checked the FSM last night, and it seemed to indicate that the fuel pump doesn't work when the EGI fuse is pulled.
