thinking of making an S4 Hatch cover
After I get done with my FMIC, I'm going to create a hatch cover for my 88 TII, I had one on my 89 GTU and I really miss it being there.
I'm researching materials at this point, but the general design will be very similar to the s5 hatch covers, but made out of either fiberboard or fiberglass (very thin) with a wooden (possibly balsa) skeleton underneath to preven sagging (like the one on my GTU did). the top and front will be upholstered to match the interior and and also function to hide assembly and mounting screws.
Bottom will attach to the existing rear floor with button snaps just like the s5 hatch covers.
will also have to fab up a hinge design and hinge mounts that attach to the shock towers and bungee straps to attach to the rear hatch lifters like the s5's.
If i go with fiberglass, i max scavenge an s5 cover and make a mold directly off of it!!!
I'm going to make one regardless, but was wondering if there is interest for this type of thing.

As far as I know, they are still available at the dealer. Not sure the cost, but it was an option, so I'm sure it can't be that high. I'll be ordering one from my dealer once I have the car back on the road.

I've never seen an S4 with the cargo hatch in it.. Only s5's... was it an option? cause my s4 doesn't have any of the attachment points (snaps behind the cargo hatches, hinge points below the speaker covers, bungee hooks on the hatch lifters).
'll go to the dealer an see, (i'm afraid of the price though).
You won't be able to see the support skeleton, it'll be underneath and covered by the upholstery.

I think it was an option on S4 models. But yes, there is one because I have an S4 hatch cover and S5 hatch cover. The S4 hatch covers are super rare.
The dealer will want an arm and a leg for one if you buy one from them.

This roll out cover has been on both an S4 & an S5.
I adapted it from some Chevy hatchback.

My turbo has the Mazda cover, so this one is stored for now..
