Thinking about going turbo...

So I'm thinking about going turbo. I have an 88 vert. So far I have the S4 ecu, wiring harness, and intake manifold. My buddy gave me a turbo he said it was off a 6 cylinder GM. Not sure what but I have the p/n on the badge. He said it runs about 12 lbs of boost which is about what the factory turbo does. I'm really not sure anything about this thing and in doing this I would have my car down for a while. I'm going to go front mount so I don't have to get a T2 hood. But that's not for a while anyways. Just wanna know what you guys think about this turbo and see if I can use it, not sure what I really have.

Spec - GM-3
P/N - 10226226
Borg-Warner/IHI

The factory FC turbo runs half that amount of boost. Read the FAQ, its a great starting point, if not an ending point, on how to turbo your N/A. I can't wait to see pics of your downpipe!

Based on some Googling it is the turbo from a 1992-1993 Chevy/GMC 6.2L-6.5L. That's all the info I can find. Based on your pictures, it looks like your compressor is adaquate (random guess) but your turbine side, as is typical, is slightly small. The wheel size looks OK, but the housing seems to have a very small A/R. Many of these big diesels are running small A/Rs.

That said, measure the wheels to see what it can be compared to. And you might be able to get a bigger turbine housing from one of the diesel tuning shops. Maybe ask the diesel forums if they know anything about it? Someone surly does.

I like how one of your major concerns is about the TII hood. In reality, that is probably the smallest detail you will face.
