Thinking about FC as first car...
I know there are probably 3 of these posts a day but, can anyone tell me if buying one of these as my first car is a good idea. My price range is going to be about 5 to 6 thousand. A cheap used FC. I know i'll probably have to fix a lot of crap but I hear the 2nd gen is much more reliable than the 3rd. so it seems more practical for a 16 year old to have. Also, what would insurance be (aproximately) for a 16 year old as a daily driving car? Thanks in advance.
I hope your parents aren't giving you all the money, it makes you appreciate the car so much more if you earn the money you buy it with. You can get a nice series 5 Turbo II for that money, but that may not be good for a first car.
no, i have to pay for the car, gas, repairs, mods, eveything but insurance, which I will begin paying when I'm 18. I'm not asking my parents to buy my car. I hate dumbshits at my highschool with their auto mustangs that their parents bought for them and they think they're hot ****. I'm working for my car. But insurance, my parents have agreed to pay for for 2 years. I might have to pick up the difference though because my brother's insurance is like $900.

Without comprehensive on my FC, I was told that it'd be the same as my 1969 VW bug to insure
Soooo.... shouldn't be too bad if you don't want comprehensive! With respect to the car, 5-6 grand will get you a pristine FC. I'd either get a nice one with REALLY low miles, or a nice one w/ a popped motor for 2G's or so, and then put a new motor in it.
Good luck!,

insurance look at color this way:
- red car = red is exotic
red is sporty
sporty = drive fast
drive fast = more accidents.
that's why when you get a fruity non-sports color like light green or something is cheap

I'm 29. My insurance on a 1990 convertible with 100/100/300 is $650 a year, in california. I have liability only.
It's a great first car, in any trim level. There's an active aftermarket for parts and upgrades, but the stock car is fine as it is.
And don't buy and automatic. I found this cherry convertible, but stupid stupid I bought it, and it has an auto, and I hate that. It's a sport's car. What was Mazda thinking.
Be aware that if the car is in your name and the insurance in your parents, you WILL NOT be covered in an accident. Just found that out last week while having my every 3 month chat with my insurance agent (I like futzing around, trying to save on fixed costs). So buy the car in their name if they are going to pay the insurance coverage (on their policy, I mean).
Happy driving.
