Thinking about buying this FC

I saw a thread for what color a car should be painted in this section... I feel this fits here just as well as that does (seeking general opinion)

I stumbled across this... 1987 rx7 that is an incomplete project. The guy has put some money into it that is selling it. It would be nice to have a project this summer and to have a car for autocross.

"-Year: 1987 -Make: Mazda -Model: Rx7 TII -

Modifications: Rebuilt JSpec 0 Miles (No Fluids) Rtek 2.0 (Brand New) Streetported Ported Wastegate Ported Intake New Brake Rotors (Brand New Not Installed) New HD Oil Cooler Lines (Brand New Installed) Emissions Removed Mazdaspeed 3 puck clutch and pressure plate RC Engineering 850cc Injectors Racing Beat FCD Auto Meter Boost Gauge S5 Tailights Aluminum Hood SS Brake Lines (Brand New Installed) Solid Motor Mounts (Brand New Installed) Walbro 255 Fuel Pump (Brand New Not Installed) ACT Pro Lightweight Flywheel w/ counterweight (Brand New Not Installed) S5 Mirrors Bonez DP KOYO Radiator (Brand New Installed) SuperNow Camber Control Sub Link (Brand New Installed) SuperNow Lateral Control Link Rods (Brand New Installed) SuperNow Cutting Tie-rod End Links (Brand New Installed) Cusco Lower arm bar (Brand New Installed) FD3S Dual alternator pulley (Brand New Installed) Stance GR+ Pros Coilovers (Brand New Installed) Taurus E-Fan -A detailed description Brand new 2 piece seals were used from Atkins Rotary. The port job was done by Tyler from Atkins Rotary. While the motor was getting rebuilt I purchased a vast amount of suspension and other parts. You would need to get rear brake lines for the engine bay ran to brake master cylinder.
Damage: -Front bumper lip is cut off. (Ready for a FMIC) -Passenger fender has little dents at top. -Passenger door doesn't open due to missing lock spring (you can fix that without the spring so it opens all you want, but if you try and lock it, it stays locked till you pull the lever inside the door.) -Driver side, side skirt has dent towards the front. -Interior carpet was ripped out due to clutch fluid damaging it. -Hood has a foot long scratch on it."

What do you think this is worth?

I don't want to get in over my head as far as funds go. I'm thinking if I could swing this for between 2 and 2.5 I'd have enough buffer cash to swing it with a budget of 4-5. (touch up the paint, SS lines, BOV, cold air, exhaust, seats, carpet, new tint, FMIC, tune...)

It all depends of your experience regarding modifying rotary cars. If you've never done that, don't do it or I bet it won't run during the summer. There is clearly a good amount of work to do before you can consider that car clean and running. Just changing the carpets, doing the body works (by a paint shop), buying an ECU, getting it tuned, will set you back 1 to 2000,00$. So you might as well consider a clean running car for sale and paying 5-6000 but with the job already done.

On the other hand it all depends of what you are searching, if only want to autocross the car and nothing else, you probably don't care how it looks, and are probably just interested in the handling. But still there is few buck to put in it and a lot of job to be done.

Why would I have to get a new ecu? Is it because the engine is ported?
I'm mechanically inclined and would like to have the option to get out of this car in the short term. Use it as a tool to gather experience with a rotary as well as a turbo set up.

Correction:

After a few searches I found the answer... Also, the classified ad states it comes with a brand new Rtek 2.0...

Step 1 would be to just get this thing up and running. At this point I would probably make a classified ad for it and if I can make a profit on the deal, take it.
