Thinking about buying a 2nd gen.

I'm thinking about buying a 2nd gen. rx-7, an 86. The car has 180000 miles on it, but the engine was rebuilt 5 years ago. This was before the engine got carbon locked once and then a second time. Then it sat carbon locked for 4 years. Its got only a spot of rust on the sunroof and the paint looks fine. I haven’t seen the car yet, but what I’ve heard is that the guy probably tried to crank the engine, since he bought a new battery. What you think this car is worth/ do you think he screwed the rotor up trying to crank it? Thanks

It is worth about $200-500.

You can get a running RX-7 for $1,000.

No, I think the motor was screwed up regardless, and needs a rebuild, which will probably cost about $2,000-3,000.

Why would the engine regardless of him cranking it be screwed up?

Because good engines do not "carbon lock"... twice, lol.

Got another one this one is a T2. The engine has some where around 45 - 64k miles on it, but smokes after warm up. He's also including two sets of rims, a custom exhaust system, and a taken apart engine. What you guys think? Hes asking 1500, but I'm afraid the engine is smoking for something internally.

I'm gonna have to say don't do that. That's what I did and look how I ended up (check the link in my sig.) Shop around, the right car will pop up eventually. Don't let your excitement cloud your judgement and make you ignore potential problems (like I did ).
