Think I blew an apex seal
So I was driving to work last nite, not hard, just crusing at about 40, and I come to a hill where I apply a little throttle to get up, suddenly *POP* and there is no more power. I pretty much coast to the next stoplight were it cuts out. I immediately turn the key and to my surprise it starts, but just barely, I keep the revs up to get about a half mile to work, and its smoking pretty bad, smells like coolent.
Well after work I come out and am gonna move it to the back of the lot, and it starts again, but dies if I let it idle, and barely revs when I give it gas.
Anyways, does this sound like an apex seal? I'm pretty new to this, and don't want to rebuild if I don't have to.
Thanks

Yeah, do a compression test. Pull the egi comp and inj fuses (I believe you can do this with just the inj fuse pulled but I do both) then pull a spark plug from one rotor. Crank the car over and listen for three even and strong pulses. Repeat with the other rotor. If you tossed an apex seal you should hear one swoosh, long pause, then another swoosh. How many miles on the car?

there are 90,000 miles on the car, and no I haven't been babying the car, just normal driving, I've had the car for about 3 months and the guy I bought it from didn't drive it hardly at all it had like 10,000 miles in the past 10 years

sounds like the last guy let it sit too much, didn't "excercise" that car... if you smell coolant... maybe a coolant seal. what about radiator or heater hoses? did any of them split?

And for all of you that have been carefully following my story, it is a blown rear apex seal, or maybe 2 b/c I didn't really hear any puffs, especially compared to the front which almost deafened me when i leaned in to listen, thanks for the help guys now time for a rebuild and some power!! (in a couple months when I've saved every penny)
