Question Things to look for...

Hey, my name's Derek. I'm new to this for, and hopefully will be staying around. Right now I have a 1999 Ford ZX2. It was fun at first, but has become a real blah. However, a guy I know happens to be selling his second gen RX-7 and I'm the first one he's talked to . But, I don't know much about rotary engines, other than I've heard they can be finicky things. So, what are some things to look for before I buy the car? It's a TurboII and I'm going to check the mileage and year tomorrow. I just want to know if they're are any unique problems to worry about with that car?

Okay, this is what I found out. It's an '87 Turbo II with a single turbo, it has 119,000 miles on it (not bad for as old as it is), it's never overheated, he's never had to fix any serious problems with it, and the only mod he has is hood pins. By the way, I know overheating is bad for any car, but he said never by an RX-7 that has overheated. What makes it so much worse when a rotary overheats?

It wipes out the water seals (the piston equivalent to blowing a head gasket). Once those are gone, its rebuild time.
