Things I Cant Figure Out On My Car
ok i have a 87 n/a and i blew my motor and i swapped a diff n/a in it same year though... Theres 3 Things i cant figure out...
1. The wire is by my the tranny (Its a single black wire, with a black box on the end, and on the end of the box it has a circle on the outside looks like a ground wire) where do i connect it too?
2. Theres a wire clip by my driver side motor mount (its a 2 prong click and the wire is short) where do i connect it?
3. On my exhaust manifold one of my bolts are stripped (theres 2 of them) where the exhaust connects... Can i knock it out with a hammer and put a new bolt in?

kill it with BOOMSTICK!
1. is the ground wire for the ECU. It plugs into a spade connector on the firewall on the passenger side, to the right of the VIN. The ring goes onto the top of the trans in a little wood screw looking thing
2. dunno
3. More description of the location of the stripped bolt would help. if it's what connects the Y-pipe to the cat, then yes. If it's the exhaust manifold to the cat, then no.

1) condensor (capacitor) for the oil pressure guage. just bolt it on wherever, make sure that the tab is grounded.
2) oil level sending unit (probably) plugs into the oil pan.
3) No. not unless you are a hell of a strong guy. that stud is in there really good. you will have to drill/ cut it out. another optio would be to rethread it if you have a tap & die set.
or get another cat.

Thanks Patman... but for #3 its not on the cat... it goes from the block and the exhanust manifold connects to it with 4 bolts and a heat sheild on it, then on the end of it it has a flange where theres 2 studs and you put the exhaust gasket and the whole exhaust connect to it

ohh and also i turned my car on today first time since i changed the engine and i didnt start the car in gear and it went up to 3k rpm and it dropped down and turned off, then i saw a vaccum line wasnt connected to the BAC so i connected it and i didnt try to turn it on again... would that be the reason why it turned off?

Sounds like your normal 3K start-up, as long as the outside air temp was greater than about 60*F, then a possible vac leak could have stalled her once the ECU kicked off the 3K thing...
Leading plugs are the bottom ones...
Hopefully she didn't flood since she shut down so soon after the start...

On number 3, the stud in the exhaust manifold can be removed. If the hole is not usable, then just use a bolt with a slightly smaller diameter. Don't forget to put a flat and locking washer on it. How do I know... I've done it!

I think
1. is the oil level wire. It connects to the oil pan.
2. This sounds like the cold start sensor, Kevin Landers told me that they stopped putting them on the cars in 1989.5 but the wire is still there in the harness. Now it connects to nothing.
3. Mine looks like a stud. In which case I would turn the old one out (righty tighty, Lefty Loosey) and get a replacement.
If your description is what I think it is then There should be two wires real close to your driver side motor mount. One is a singe black wire with a boxed connector. That one goes to the oil pan. The second one is a slightly opaque(see through white) two wire connector just barely making it out of the wiring harness by the mount. That is the cold start thing.....mine connected to nothing, just hangs there.

**** you posted pics while I was typing
The black box goes under the 12mm bolt that holds the dust cap on. There are two duste caps next to each other, one on the tranny and one one the motor. The connector goes onder the bolt for the motor

The white one is really hard to make out because of the pic. But that one looks the one that goes to my oil pan?? I am not sure what that green one is.....it looks like it is coming out of your oil pan from the pic.

The pic on the left is a condensor.
There's two that I know of,.. there might be more I havn't seen yet.
One is the Oil pressure condensor, It connects to the bottom bolt on your clutch slave cylinder, & the wire clips into a group of wires on the lower drivers side fire wall.
There's another one mounted to the drivers side strut tower, where the trailing coil bolts on.
and it clips into a group of wires nearby.

OOOOOHHHHH you know what ^^^ they are right, I have an auto tranny and there is just a dust cover where your slave cylinder is. Man, every post I would run over to the car and check again to see what you guys were talking about. Finaly dawned on me. Once again two ways to be correct!!
