Question THesE F****** Electricle problems are driving me INnnsANe!

Ok i have lights going out all over the place, i dont know wtf is going on or where to start.
I have an 88TII it has some accesories added like guages a turbo timer and other aftermarket accesories. The only thing i can think of is the previous owner did a shitty job wiring this **** or i have somthing else wrong.
This is a list of crap that has burned out within like a weeks time. Drivers side low beam headlamp, Drivers side stop light, all Illumination lights (Fuse is blown this is the second time). I hate electricle problems more than anything manely because i dont understand them and am not good at fixing them. Can you guys please give me a place to start? I mean there has to be a reason for all these lights going together like this??
As much as i love my TII this kinda **** makes me want to ditch these old cars and get me somthin new so i dont have all these problems

Well First thing you need to do since you are blowing lights and fuses all of a sudden, is to get a volt-meter, and see if your alternator is putting out more than 15Volts. If it is then the voltage regulator in the alternator is fried. You can either replace the entire alternator or replace the voltage regulator inside the alternator, but since you said that you don't like dealing with electrical stuff, then I would just replace the whole alternator.

If it isn't the alternator, then yah, you have the pain in the butt task of tracking down a wiring problem. Check out the alternator first though, before you get yourslef any more upset.

Good Luck

well i dont if this is accurate or not but i have a voltage reader on my HKS timer and it usually consistanly shows 14 volts somtimes a little high but not lower than 14 volts, maybe this could be the problem???

If it is simply two bulbs and a fuse, I wouldn't be calling it much of a problem yet.

The bulbs on our cars are generally anywhere between 10 and 20 years old. It is perfectly normal to expect them to blow out by now, and most should be replaced already anyway with newer updated bulbs.

As to the blown fuse I would be looking at what ever got hooked onto the parking lights/ or what ever circuit.

But it hardly sounds like you have much of a problem... unless you had replaced all the bulbs in the car within the last year or so and that now are having problems.

The headlights are new there the h4 conversion lights, the drivers side one was the first thing to go.
Then i replaced the tail lights with the same s4 tail lights only nicer. I used the same bulbs from the old tail lights
The interior lights went last night i simply got into my car and they were gone, only thing i was doing was playing with the timer.
I know i can see postive terminals tapping into my fuse box when i go to look so maybe i should check this? What exactly should i be doing cuz i really am a moron when it comes to fixing this kind of stuff??
Thanks for the input guys so far

Most cheap H4 conversion super white or blue white bulbs are crap, and will blow within 6 months. Only the better (and expensive) ones last.

Have you replaced the blown fuse and checked the back of the light switch???

As far as wires tapped into the fuse box, if they just Mickey moused it and stuffed wires into the fuse holes or wrapped wire around the fuses and stuck them back in, yes you could have serious problems, that unless you are skilled in using a multi-meter you may have a hard time fixing. If that is the case you need to find a good electrical shop in the area and have them work on your car.

Have you gotten a FSM or even a Haynes yet to help you trouble shoot the problems.

P.S. and BTW: I (and I am sure others) take offense when someone bashes (saying things like ******* electrical system) on our cars when they simply don't have a clue on how they (or other cars and parts) work where there is a problem, or when the problem is really a loose nut behind the wheel.

All that said, if you still want to try and fix it yourself, you will need to find out how to check and identify the wires that you say are
postive terminals tapping into my fuse box
so we can help you further.

You know Ice i respect you i feel you are a very important and knowlegable part of this forum and a person that i seek advice from the most it seems.
Im a sorry i offended you so and i will try to tone it down a bit. After all i complain when others treat ppl badly so its only fair that i not do anything to offend anyone else. And hey if its really bad then theyll just delete this thread.
Anyways i went out last night a got a buch of fuses and bulbs. I replaced all my bad fuses/bulbs and going to see what happens if they blow out again, then im going to worry and bust out my Hanes. Its just that i am a little afraid of fixing this stuff myself cuz i feel i might make the problem worse but ill go ahead and try to tackle the problem
Thanks
