Are these 4 piston brake calipers???
Hi, I bought this mazda RX7 as a shell. I am going to use it for scca.
There are no indications of what model this was because it is just a shell. It has no front bumpers but has S5 rear lights and if I'm not mistaken these are S5 4 piston brakes. If I remember right the S5 you can change the pads on via the hole seen in the pic on the caliper without unbolting anything and the S4 4 piston has no hole. You need to swing out the caliper like most cars. Am I right are the brakes in this pic Series5 4 piston. Tell me if anyone knows for sure.
thanx

Not true!!! My buddy has a 1989 TurboII and I have a 1987 TurboII, the calipers are different!!!
On the Series 4 you have to unbolt the caliper and swing it back to replace the brake pads. Ont he Series 5 there is an access hole that you can pull the pads out through, you just pull out the pins first. A mazda dealership would have the specialty tool that is recommended when pushing the caliper piston back in.

well, I've owned 3 S4 TII's now (2 1988's and 1 early 1987) and they've ALL had the same brake calipers with the same hole. NO TII /gxl requires caliper removal to change the pads, they're all the same, at least in that respect.
Does your TII have base model brakes swapped onto it for some reason, or someting?

I've got an 86' and I have the hole to take out the pads. That's how I did it when I just did a brake job. Got any pics of the 4-pistons that you have to remove?

its not hard to unbolt the calipers, might take a bit of liquid wrench and a impact gun to get the bolts loose though. but it is required if you change the rotors. also make sure if you do take the calipers off to torque the bolts back to factory specs, one time i just did it by hand and a caliper bolt worked it's way loose a week later...no damage but made one hell of a noise hitting the wheels.

My bad I was confused, the smaller brake calipers are not the turbo or GTU I was thinking Crossed.
you guys are right. The 4 piston brakes have the hole.
