If you're honestly worried about thermostat failure than go buy a new Mazda one. The chances of it giving you any problems in the remaining life of the car are extremely low.

thanks for all the input..i was just wondering everyone's opinions..bc honestly i have never had a problem with the aftermarket ones..i mean the aftermarket one thats on there has been on there for a little over 6 years now..its just i heard everyone has said different things..and the price difference isnt any different..i found an oem one for 11.95 and the failsafe is 11.99..so i guess thats another reason why i asked..but all in all thanks for all the input

It would have been good to see this thread last week... i repaced my thermostat last weekend (car was overheating) with a non-oem type, and now it still seems to run a little hot, not past the halfway mark, but a little past 2/3rds. Do you think it is ok? Its an S4 n/a

And yes, the reason you are running hotter is because the aftermarket thermostats that "fit" the RX-7 are just that... ones that "fit" multiple cars, but are not designed for the rotary engines cooling system. In some cases they do not even have bypass and weep holes, which actually would cause a reduced cooling capcity even though the aftermarket thermostat may be a lower opening temp.
Only use the OEM thermostat. There are no other choices for a street driven vehicle.

the oem thermostat comes out to be about the same price as an aftermarket one anyways... or at least at autozone. there its 8 bucks for the thermostat and 13 for the gasket. the oem is about 20 right and comes with the gasket?
