thermal wrapped rb headers

just a question. i just wrapped mine and threw em on. i started the car and after 20 seconds i see steam ( i think) coming from the wrap. is this normal? i had to dip the wrap in water when applying but i mounted a good 4 hrs later while it was drying was it burning off the moisture? i am driving it straight headers tommaro to a shop to get exhaust put on/welded. i dont want to end up halfway there with my car on fire. please let me know guys thanks

If you dipped it in water, then I think its safe to say that its just water boiling off. If your paranoid you can get a cheap foam extiguisher at an auto parts place, but there should be any problems. Its just header wrap, after all.
Also, bring earplugs, that **** is LOUD.

i noticed some header wrap temp ranges arent rated to handle rotary exhaust temps. theres usually a constant temp and a maximum temp range if im not mistaking. but it sounds like you just let it idle and warm up. its nto as if it was seeing 1800 degrees so it most likely still had moisture on it.

Yeah, I'm really not joking. I ran with just an exhaust manifold for about a week while I was waiting for the header to come in, and it was crazy loud. I turned it on and set off car alarms a block away. I only floored it once, and my ears were ringing for a good while. Mine was ported, but its still loud enough to warrent ear plugs.

And note, those thick, cast walls on the stock manifold quiet it down a LOT...

I STARTED my car open header on my GTU, shut it off seconds later as I was DAMN scared. It was ear numbing, just to start it..
