Hey, I used the washer trick. I removed the front pulleys (I do not know if this is necessary, I just needed a surface to hook the chain wrench around). I put a piece of wood between the clutch and the seat, holding the clutch fully depressed. Using the chain wrench to hold the shaft from turning, I removed the front bolt. Everything came out with it. I added the washers, pushed everything back in, re-installed the bolt with non-permanent locktite (Blue, I believe), torqued to 170 ft/lb, replaced the pulleys. Oh yeah, if the copper washer on the large bold is not captured, use something sticky to hold it in place - it can fall off the bolt, and if it does, you will pump oil out around that bolt like crazy. I replaced mine, the new bolts have the washers captured. Have fun!
