Its becuase APC is out of business. They were bought by some other co who's name I can't remember (or so I was told by a former APC distributor when I called looking for a generic 3 gauge pod) and most of thier inventory is being sold dirt cheap becuase it, well, sucks.

I found an APC 3 gauge pod on e-bizzle for $9.99 and bought it becuase I needed a 3 gauge pod for a plug. When APC was in business they were selling it for between $75 & $9x. And it's a complete POS. I wouldn't pay more than $10 for it, & I didn't
