Are there no brake upgrades for the 4 lug?

From what ive searched so far, theres aaroncakes write up but besides fabing up spacers, The only thing ive seen so far is 4 lug turbo 2 rotors on some site. looked fake though. Is there any options out there besides swapping for 5 lugs?

Is it clearance issues people have with keeping 4 or is it something else??
can anyone point me into the right direction for brake upgrades?

oh...if i were to fab up some spacers and swap to the four piston brakes, could i then upgrade those with aftermarket rotors and pads? or am i stuck with the converted tii rotors?

Do a 5 lug swap and get a 4 pistion brake set from a GXL or t2. If your running with 2 pistons in the front your going to notice a bigger bite with the 4 pistons.

Is swapping for 5 lug the only option SE owners have?

Pretty much.... When I was looking for a 7 I avoided 4 lugs like a plague.

budget wise...would it be easier to just sell this seven and buy a gxl for 2grand? or is swapping really that much easier?

I'd say no on switching cars, considering the cost for 5-lug swap parts (typically around ~$200). The swap is cake once you have all the parts. Unless the GXL is in better shape than your current car.

its waaay easy... one thing you might also have to replace when doing the swap is the DDTS bushing... on my donor car they were seized up so i had to torch them out to get the rear assembly out of the car.

Yes, it's called performance or racing brake pads. Do you actually want to stop better, or just spend money?

Actually, I'd argue this. If you just send the DXF file on my website off to a machine shop and then pick up the spacers in a few days when they are done (generally for under $75) then it is literally a 30 minute operation (if you have a good drill) to put the 4 piston brakes on the 4 lug hubs. With the hub swap you are looking at repacking bearings, potentially damaging the DTSS bushings in the rear, replacing the wheels, etc. etc. Depending on circumstances (for example, you might have a nice set of aftermarket 4 lug wheels), converting the 4 lug to 4 piston might be the easiest way.

For the record, there is a proper write up on my site: http://www.aaroncake.net/rx-7/4lug4potbrakes.htm

just the person i was looking for. Since the four piston was your idea. If i were to do it, can i put aftermarket rotors and calipers on?? I intend to track this car but, here me out, i thought it would be cool and also wanted to make a se car that was still four lug yet very competitive. or am i just chasing a deluded dream?

As all the mounting points are the same on the 4 lug and 5 lug hub, any aftermarket setup designed for the 5 lug should fit the 4 lug if the rotor spacing is maintained.
