Is there a chasis difference between s4 and s5?

In particular I am curious about the transmission x-member. Yes, I swapped engines and the t5 trans crossmember that came with the kit doesnt even come close to fitting. On my S5 where the xmember bolts to the body both mounting points are flat, but on the crossmember that came with the kit, one is angled. I never had the factory crossmember so I cant compare that...any idea what gives? Its not a big deal, I will just fab up another crossmember, but just for my info I would like to know what went wrong.

S4 and S5 transmissions/crossmembers and chassis' are interchangeable, as long as the appropriate crossmember is used with its matching trans. The only chassis difference would be between auto and manual cars, in relation to the mounting points.

IIRC Carfax may specify? My 7s have been 5 spds but there may be a difference in the tunnel to accommodate the longer throw of the automatic shifter?

Without jacking up the car you can tell by taking the lower steering surround off and looking at the ignition switch. It has a safety interlock cable going to the shifter.

The automatic Transmission cross member sits much further back in the car thus the mounts on the tunnel are much futher back. Custom mounts are required to put a 5spd into an auto chassis.

My race car was an auto S5. I fabbed the cross member to allow use of a manual non-turbo S4 transmission.

In your case i'd guess it's an issue with the kit or something missing. If the kit was made for a 5-speed chassis, it should at least line up with the longitudinal location in the tunnel. If the chassis is an auto, and the T5 is for a 5-speed chassis the mounts on the tunnel will be about 5" aft of where it should bolt up.
