FL is there anything tricky about removing a flywheel?

maybe im just not using the right phrasing when trying to look for a thread on removing a flywheel, but I've noticed a small amount wear on my flywheel and before taking it somewhere to have it resurfaced tomorrow i need to know if there is anything special to taking it off.

Of course there's the big nut in the center to remove, but is that it?

and im not sure, but if i can then get access to a counter weight after removing the flywheel, how would i check it?

im also trying to diagnose a vibration problem. (https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...37#post9850937)

(i just found that my clutch has been pretty eaten up and my flywheel feels a little wavy where the clutch disk meets it. so when finding out that i would have to wait till tomorrow for my clutch set to come in, I've decided to just remove the flywheel tomorrow morning to see if i can get it resurfaced around town)

If you have a flywheel with a removable counterweight, then yeah, you could do something with it. If its a stock flywheel then its molded into the flywheel and there is nothing you can do with it.

this is they way i do it, it might not be the absolute correct way, but its worked over and over and i havent fucked anything up.

remove 54mm nut
take a soft faced hammer, tap firmly around the perimeter of the flywheel and it should start to loosen up. you should be able to wiggle it off at this point

i have never had a problem doing it that way

alright, that sounds easy enough.

farberio,
what did you mean by "you could do something with it", did you mean refinishing the flywheel or trying to make adjustments to it?

I was assuming that you wanted access to the counterweight to change it in an effort to solve a vibration problem. Assuming you had a lightweight flywheel.

Ooooo, ok.

yeah i believe i have the stock flywheel so we'll see what happens after i get it off to see if i can get it resurfaced and get my new clutch installed along with pilot bearing and throwout bearing.

i still wouldnt know if it really is my counter weight. i dont know how to diagnose it.

and in any situation, i have to get this back together by the end of today. (its not my driveway)
