Testing S4 pulsation dampner?

Sorry, I know the pulsation dampner has been beat to death. I have an 87 GXL, the one in now has the screw fallen out, I know that's bad and I should be looking at replacing it. I have another one but I don't know how old it is and it's been sitting out of a car for 3 or 4 years at this point. So what I am wondering is if there is any way to test it without putting the car together, or if I should just bite the bullet and order a new one?

you can always find the solid metal one found in the na s4 na cars. thats what i did with my t2 and it works great. check on here or the local junk yard should be a couple bucks. replace the copper crush washers and tighten her up.
saves alot of money
