Yeah bro the friggin stock one BLOWS nothing BUT HOT AIR ****! 
Me and manricio tried to install the nordskog gauge on his GXL but it would start to idle funny so we un hooked it. I think we need to find an alternate power source for the gauge.

Hey all I have some intake temp readings and a small write-up on the STOCK box which is only modded to flow better. 
It is from my daily commute to school.
I have more data but I didn't write it out I do remember one VERY HOT intake once I shut down at 4 PM today.
Wednesday, October 01, 2003: At 6:45 I turned on the car and ambient temp read 65* F Intake temperature was 68* F according to my nordskog gauge and my digital thermometer. After my standard 5 minute warm up I took off to my g/f’s house. Cruising at 40 MPH the intake temps rose to 88* F in about 2 minutes. After traveling into the city at roughly 65-80 mph intake temp read at 95* F. Ambient read 66* F. after picking up my girl which took about 3 minutes intake temp read at 105* F, ambient was still 65* F. Driving to a light around 1 mile from the entrance to my girl’s house temps rose to 107* F. I caught the red light at the next stop and the intake heated up to 110* F. I get the green and cruise at 45mph but the intake temp is at 111* F now. Passing a stop light intake temps dip to 110* F cruising at 45 mph. Traffic starts to back up as I pass the next light and temps rise again to 111* F. After cruising for a bit at 50mph temps dipped to 108* F. I got the red though. Heat soak reached 110* F in a couple of minutes. Cruising at 40mph for several minutes lowered temps to 107* F and I get another RED light. Heat soak reached 112* F I check ambient and it is still 65* F. Traffic lets up and I get all greens for a good stretch of road and intake temps lower to 106* F after cruising at ~70mph for around 5 minutes. I kick it up a notch and let her have ~75* F and temps dip to 103* F. I really kick it up and hit ~90mph and the intake finally starts to cool down. It reached a whopping 97* F after a quick 1 minute run at 90mph. I reached school at ~7:30. After turning off the car the intake heat soaked to 131* F in roughly 10 minutes of being off.

man i got a temp gauge with an LCD and put it in tonight (right onto the top of the filter). it was like 40*F tonight where i live and we got some pretty good readings. the HIGHEST temp we got all night in my car was 105*F and that was after running the car really hard and then letting it idle for about 10 minutes.
cruising around town around 35-45mph we were getting about 65-75*F
cruising on the highway the lowest temp i got was 53*F which i thought was pretty good.

First of all what was ambient at? is this with a stock intake or what? second what kind og guage is it. third how the **** did you get temps that LOW!
Also I have the intake temp probe as close the the Throttle body for a reason. if I had the sensor at the filter it would read ambient and not the closest thing to what is REALLy going into the engine.

yeah I have that thermometer for measuring ambient. but for itnake temps it is not very acurate. I also hate the refresh rate on it. lol.
those intake temps are pretty good for the cruising and driving temps. but damn dude 105 with a 40* ambient. that is 65* above ambient. Our cold air intake hasn't gone over 15-20* over ambient yet. lol
anyways its good to have others takeing temps on their own intakes.

my intake also doesnt really have direct view of the outside world. its just kinda in its own little section of the engine bay with a "fresh air" pipe giving it some outside air.
anyways, i got off at my exit tonight and popped my hood right at the end of the exit, and my cone filter was really cold, and the intake pipe was also cool to the touch. so im quite satisfied.

I only wish ambient got that low here. lol I would not see that untill around novermber or early december if I am lucky.
Good work on your intake man. I seem to remember the pics of a fiberglassed elbow and thinking it was kool looking but I don't know how well it would handle in a situation like there is in the southern states. got any pics of the air pipe?

However, you wouldn't need to replicate that effect. Ram air is essentially useless, as proven many times before. So your power gains would come from a lower temp, and a free flowing intake which is easy to prove on the dyno.

Well I wasn't talking about RAM AIR I know that is doesn't do much anyhow.
I was talking about the air flowing over the whole car at speed and taking away heat with it. I still don't have that king of money to perform a test that none of the other BIG NAME companies(which have HUGE budgets) have done. If I ever do have the cash and time though. Rest assured I will get the thing dyno'ed.
but compared to the stock intake temps I am reading now. I wouldn't bother to argue that the CAI is not working. I read 132* F on the way here from the house. at around 80* F ambient temp. With my CAI the same ambient would yield temps atleast 20-35* F cooler. The running temperature of the stock intake is that of the cold air intake's heat soaked condition.
The stock intake heat soaked to 162* F!!!!

I can only assume that the big name companies don't test because they don't want to publish such low numbers. It looks bad on them to sell a $300 intake tube that results in a 3 HP increase.
As for your testing, the standard blower used on a dyno (to cool the rad/intercooler) would more then suffice.

Well for now since I can't take all the parts and car and afford the trip. I am buying a TAZZO and a G-Tech maybe. But the TAZZO seems to be a bad *** little gadget.
I amd going to put on the cone filter tonight or tommorow. I just have to get my brakes on that fudger.
