Test drove an s4 today... what the?!

Ok guys, so I test drove a used 88. the guy wanted $800 for it, it needs alot of work. I took it for a test drove though, and I was amazed. the engine bay was entirely stock... but to my amazement, there was PLENTY of low end.

Not to mention it had the quietest exhaust I've ever heard on a rotary (must have been stock). The car suprised me. It was so INCREDIBLY smooth that I swear there must be something wrong with it.

Plenty of low end torque, smooth, zero vibrations, very quiet exhaust.

What I didn't like... WAAAAY to sensative power steering, maybe its just because I've been running manual steering for over 8 months, but that thing was way to jumpy imo.

But I'm just amazed. My 90 is full of vibrations (caused by the exhaust being pinned on the frame) and having no low end torque (wired ports, I've yet to fix fthis... Don't tell me about it!)

I dunno, just suprised s4s could seem so damn nice. I can't even remember a time my s5 being like that.

Coincidentaly, for those who have seen my s5, you know the interioir is in pieces and it needs a little body work. My car looked 100% better than the s4 I test drove.

Anyhow...yeah

I offered the guy $500 and he said "can't do it". I'll be back in a week or so and offer the same and he'll probably cave in. The guy didn't seem to know much about it.

Coincidentaly, When I started it up, it instantly went up to 4k for about 8 seconds before the clutch fan kicked in perfectly. I was like... ****, stuff actually works in this car.

(Used to my full-TB mod bullshit).

I had a mint '88 SE. Yeah, the stock steering, if kept in excellent condition, is very, very light. Get over 35-40mph and the steering should tighten up. It was quiet, well maintained. Everything worked too.

Sometimes its nice to have a stock car that feels like new...

I just drove my friends stock gxl the other day, and damn,.. so smooth compared to my car, no rattles, no thumping exhaust note, can barley hear the motor, dont havbe the wrestle with the wheel when dead stoped(although i admit i like the feel of my manuel rack anyother time, its just a bit of a bitch to turn when stopped) I was impressed. I like how my car is now though,.. but the smooth quietness was interesting. almost makes me want to get a stock s4 as a backup car.

I was like.... WTF.??..?..... Is the car on??
I was so use to my corksport exhaust that i thought the car wasn't running.

Yeah stock FC's in good shape are quiet and smooth. Do you think anyone would have bought a FC brand new if they first started it and it let a big back fire followed by fumes?

No, but it did chirp the tires without dropping the clutch. Just went clutch in, 2krpm. slip out to get going, then floored it and chirped a couple times. I'm guessing aux ports are working fine.

I just installed the stock exhaust on my 88 the other day. It was soooo quiet and it had so much more torque it chirped the tires too. I swear straight pipe exhaust on an n/a is almost a downgrade.

It all depends. My straight piping gives me decent low end while giving me a significant amount of top end power.

I remember on my prelude when I went to an open type exhaust it actually screwed my low end but improved my top end. I bet it has alot to do with exhaust back pressure etc...
