temp gauge questions

okey i'm going with a smaller aftermarket steering wheel which will block my gauges i want to install a aftermarket temp gauge, i just want to make sure i'm understanding this all correctly, the temp sender by the oil pedestal is for the gauge and the one on the water pump itself is for the ecu correct? so disconnecting the one for the dash will not affect operation? or should i just splice the aftermarket wire in with the old one so both gauges work?

You're probably going to need a sender to replace the OEM one. AFAIK, you won't be able to splice the wires together because of a difference in resistance.....

You have to use the sender that comes with the gauge. You can't use the stock one.

I think it would be best to drill and tap a hole for the sender that comes with the aftermarket gauge. I think the best place is in the water pump housing under the thermostat.
