Temp Gauge - how high is too high?
#28
Hmm... Mine runs at 1/2 most of the time when I'm at freeway speeds (~80mph).
It sometimes gets under 1/2 in ~65 degree weather, but usually stays at 1/2 in ~75 degree weather or warmer.
If its like 85-90 degrees out, it goes up slightly over 1/2.
It runs under 1/2 around the city though....
I just did a coolant flush few days ago, and put in a new Mazda thermostat.
Temps seem to be the same, unfortunately.
Anything else I can do to help it run cooler? (Short of replacing radiator with a better, more $$$$ one...)
Also, whats the big difference between a Mazda thermostat and say a Stant one from Pep Boys?

And I can't tell you what the difference between the thermos is, only that everyone hates the aftermarket ones.

Yeah, I have the plastic undertray on there.
However, I don't have the brake air cooling ducts on yet nor do I have fender liners on yet. (Car didn't come with it...)
Not sure if those makes a big difference, althought I don't think they would.

Also, my cruising temps didn't fall as low as they normally do (~175/180F instead of ~165F when cruising on a highway at night, for example.)

I didnt want to start a new topic... but does the S5 fan (10 blades) directly replace an S4 blade? or is there modification needed? I'd like to get a 10 blade S5 fan for my car but i was not sure if i could swap it as easily as i'd like to...

It's a waste of time trying to have a debate on this topic.
The stock temp gauges is NOT accurate.
Anyone who has run an aftermarket water temp gauge can tell you this.
GET ONE.

Unless you continue to be blind...
I put a mechanical Sunpro in my car last year. Fine. It died two weeks ago.
So I put an electric Cyberdyne in there.
It's reporting temps, from the EXACT same location as the Sunpro, as being 10F-15F *hotter* than the Sunpro did. The first drive after I installed it (this past Sunday night) I was all but grinding my teeth, staring at that gauge and wondering what the hell was going on...
The Sunpro was $30. The Cyberdyne was $80. The Cyberdyne damn well better be the one reporting correctly.
