talk about a bridge to no where!!!!
I bought a 13b-re from jhot...put it in and took it to a local race shop that does rx7s...long story short after the tweeks he did to it...the car started and idled fine....he says he put it on the dyno to tune the haltech and all of a sudden it started to make a noise (pebble in a tin can) when you pressed on the gas...now he says the apex seals are gone....so he takes apart the motor and says I need 2 rotors and 2 rotor housings...WTF man the **** just ran fine you shure it couldn't have been a tunning error running too lean maybe!!!!!anyway I have not seen the parts yet...and he tells me when he puts the motor back together with the parts he obtained there is no warranty on the motor...again WTF man...the **** ran fine idled fine...compression seemed good a compression check was done before it was shipped to me and when I got it I checked by pulling the plug in one housing and then the other and listening to it after I put it in...had no misses then...long story short where do you think this bridge leads????

he said he started with almost no boost and began to create a new map....now he says that he will not charge me to pull and reinstall the engine but I have to pay for the parts and labor to rebuild....

I'm not going to say right now until I see the parts and form my final conclusion...it may have been an apex seal but how will I know the difference between a bad seal and a bad tune??? which comes first the chicken or the egg??? he says he's going to work with me on the pricing of the parts but I also am concerned about the fact that new seals are not going to be installed so later on when the water seals or other seals go well you know....

$5 says it's one of the following:
1. He started with someone else's base map and blew it up since the map was for the wrong car.
2. He didn't zero the timing.
3. CAS was off a tooth or two, which is essentially the same as #2.
Either way it's his fault.

I'm going with the #1 that Aaroncake posted. I think he tried to use a map that was for another RE and it ended up blowing up the motor. Setup's can be in a WIDE range when it comes to RE's and he probably thought yours was similar to one that he had done previously and it killed the motor.
I would definately ask him to see the blown rotors and housings to see what they look like. If it was detonation, he is at fault.

i have a friend who is a good lawyer and he has told many people that contacting the bbb is useless in these cases, get a lawyer, contact a rotary shop, have them go look at the motor parts as a friend that rode with you and get the right answers. if you go at this like a 15 year old girl who got wasted at her first party, your gonna end up like a 15 year old who got wasted at her first party.....FUCT

Get a lawyer and just have him show up with you. They'll have no idea what hit them...

Unless the lawyer is a friend and free, then having a lawyer prepare a letter and show up with you at the shop will cost more then funding another rebuild.
Retaining a lawyer is a nice thought, but only if the situation makes it worthwhile.
