Taking out the rear end

Yea getting the drivetrain ready for a swap here. Don't want to get into the details of the full project, but right now im trying to take out the rear end.

I have put jackstands on the metal crossbars that connect to the rear wheels. I COULD NOT get the car high enough for me to put the jackstands underneath the shocks like other people on here have mentioned. Its holding fine, and honestly it looks sturdy enough. Is this gonna be ok?
Im shooting to get the exhaust system out of there in one piece, taking it out piece by piece with rusted together parts is ******* way to time consuming. I would like to get the exhaust out without breaking it, but if it snaps when it drops or some ****, no big deal.
Once I get that off im aiming at removing the driveshaft and the differential with halfshafts. I've searched and asked enough questions that I think that I can do it no prob

Wish me luck.

just jack teh rear up

then with a jack, hold up the rear end, jack it up

and then unbolt the diff and the subframe

lower the jack and then go under and jerk it

it shoudl drop about liek 6 inch, both diff and subframe

and then unbolt the diff mount on the front and pull it out...

You will have to take off the rear wheels, then the axle nuts and gently tap the halfshafts out, dont pull on them or you can separate the joint. Also, dont put the car back on the ground and try to push it if the axles are out.

But yeah, ive been there before. Under the car on jackstands with a towel for a creeper, breaking the rusted stock exhaust loose.

Damn gotta take the wheels off to huh? Ugh.

Well I took out the exhaust and heat shields for the past ******* couple hours, what a headache, but I got it all out. Driveshaft came out easy btw. I forgot to drain the tranny so when I slid it out of the transmission oil started to leak, nice big mess...
After cleaning all that **** out and draining the tranny I noticed that there was a nice leak at the transmission end where the driveshaft connects, black muddy oil all over the place from the driveshaft spinning, and there was a fresh drip ready to drop before I took the driveshaft out. Good thing the engine and tranny are coming out.

Any tips on removing the speedo cable? I didn't even attempt to take out off or try to, it was covered in oil and I'll save that for when the whole engine comes out.
Nothing more really to say to tell you the truth, except that im on the path to get this bitch running again.
thx for any and all advice btw.

If I remember right, its been a while, there should be a collar on the speedo cable where it screws on the tranny and you unscrew it and pull the cable. You going to turbo components or n/a lsd?

Yea pretty much. I can get a nice deal on the longblock TII engine from jdm source. This combined with an S4 LSD TII rear end and halfshafts are what im aiming for.
No performance upgrades, just the engine and drivetrain. When thats done I'll concentrate my funds on suspension, then body, then performance.
Right now I just want a working car. My current engine just requires too much money to get it the way that I want it (NA). After I buy all that I need, seriously, im looking at the same price as my TII longblock, so TII longblock it is. Its stupid to spend a grand fixing up an NA to find that you can get the turbo engine for the same price.

anyways. thats about it.

What a ******* bitch. I continued my efforts today successfully loosening the half shaft bolts from both parts of the differential when I was surprized by the diff mounts.. ******* piece of **** bolts are impossible to reach! Let alone, even if I did get an extension in there the bolts are huge, and im sure, on extremley tight!
Honestly, it looks like im going to have to drop the whole ******* subframe to get the diff out, what a pain in the ***. This was not what I hoped for.
The subframe has like all these ******* bars and **** that connect it to the wheels and stuff, let alone the suspension. Im going to have to disconnect all of them it seems so that they don't bend when the subframe comes out.
Im using my jackstands on the subframe right now to hold the car up, another problem that I have is that I have no idea where to put the stands, I don't want to put it on the frame of the car becuase it looks like it will bust right through it!

I need some pointers.

I can't give up now either, I've gone too far to just pack it all in, im gonna finish this damn job for sure. But I need help.

thx

damnit, I did read your post, but forgot what you said. I got a shitty memory. Im reading it now and it makes perfect sense. At that time to, I didn't even know what the subframe was lol. Do I need to remove the suspension sub link or whatever it is as well? Or can that just stay on?

drop the subframe with those 2 bolts.. they are infont of the rear wheels

and then the 2 bolts on the spaceship wing
and pull the whole thing (subframe and rear) down

and then you can reach the 2 bolts that bolts the diff mount on

after those 2 are out, push teh rear end up, move that metal piece, and then pull teh rear out
