Hence the "~" before the 12.

Anywho, IIRC they connect from the fan to the shaft (or whatever it's called). Just hold a fan blade with one hand and use the ratchet in the other. Then again maybe I'm thinking of something else... but I'm pretty sure that's it.

those are 4 10mm nuts. they are on studs. if it is just spinning, just keep doing it and remove the entire stud. u can replace them or put them back in later.

on step three it says use a long flat screw driver to keep it from spinning...but doesnt say how or where to put it.

i think i misundeerstood you. hold the pulley with your hand. if you cant hold it find someone stronger.....or cram an impact down there.

take a long flat head screw driver and wedge it between on of the bottom nuts and against the pulley and pull the opposite way of your wrench. I cant explain it too much better than that but its pretty self explanatory once you put the flat head in there and see were to wedge. Then just go one by one and sping the fan with the next tight bolt until you work all of them finger tight. make sure you wait until they are all loose before you take them off other wise you run the risk of flatening the threads when you are prying with the screw driver....also take your time wiggling the fan loose as it will be kinda stuck on. just dont run it into the radiator

I had this problem before. The solution involved heavy amounts of liquid wrench, waiting and WD-40. Then I held it with one hand while I wrenched it. Some were still pretty stuck so I had someone hold it with two hands while I wrenched.

the way i removed it was use 2 wrenches. Problem was the last nut, though the screwdriver technique took care of that. Good Luck!

yeah wedge a big long screwdriver between two studs (can't remember what I braced it against though), take one off, rotate, repeat. that's what I did

Actually, thats not the proper tool. The proper tool is the "fan clutch removal tool" that you can loan from many parts stores. I rented mine from O'reilly's, but I'm sure others have similar ones. It kinda clamps around two of the studs so that it stops the pulley from moving while you loosten the nut. You just loosten one, and rotate the pulley to loosten the next one. My advice is to jack up the car and have the person holding the tool get under the car and put on the tool while you loosten a nut from the top. Or you can do it the other way around. If you have the tool on the top, it gets in the way of the wrench and you can badly strip the nut (ask me how I know...).

Wow, are we really having problems getting the fan off? I used a 10mm wrench and my free hand. Grab a fan blade with my left hand, put the wrench on the nut and what do you know, the nut came off. Repeat three more times and its off.
