Easy, Just remove all the screws on the dash bezel. Remove the cluster screws, pull the cluster, and it should pop right out. Putting it back on is a bit harder as you might have to align the spedo cable with the cluster.

Good luck on the color change, I now have my interior gutted and ready to go. I might do the same if I can find a black interior for cheap. They are quite hard to find.

I personally think that it is much more of a hassle to swap interior than it is worth. I had a 86 GXL with that god awful marron interior. and i ended up swapping it to black interior and after that the dam interior always made squeaks and rattiling noises. it is just not the same. not to mention if you have a s4 then alot of the black pieces are different on the s5 series. now that i got a T2 i just going to deal with the nasty marrron color.

Ron, no offense but if you are having trouble with the gauges, you should think twice before taking on this endeavor.

you must remove the guage clust before sliding the dash outyou just have to rremove the bolts on either side once you remove the surround. its not easy to get it disconnected you just have to keep workin it.

removing the dash is not an easy task, just must be very careful. you won't get squeaks and rattling as long as you go slow and make sure everything is where it needs to be and fix any broken parts while its all apart.

there are a bunch of electrical connectors behind the dash that you must disconnect before the dash evn thinks about moving.

The Haynes manual is suprisingly helpful on seeing what needs to be unbolted.

It is a job that can be done but you must be very patient and not go breakin stuff. i swapped mine to black and repaired a lot of mounts and my interior is solid as a rock, no weird noises at all.

good luck, have fun
