Tach shuts off when i turn car on or goes wild then shuts off after running 30 secs

Ok i dont know whats wrong but my tach is being pain, it shuts off right when i turn on the car sometimes and then other times it will be ok for like like 30 secs (sometimes less) driving then it will start bouncing up and down going wild then shut off
(i can shut it off and start it up again and the tach will work again but problem wil just keep happening , either shutting right off or doing the boucing going wild and shutting off) ,

what could this be ? i heard it could be a bad trailing coil but would my car still rev up with only one coil working ? i dont think the coil is bad but i am not 100% sure, i swapped in another trailing coil i had and the tach barely bounced while i turned it over, bounced maybe 2 times before the car starts up ...the other coil makes even steady bounces when turning over just shuts off after it starts or right after being started (30 secs of driving)

the wires for the cas have been cut and are together with electrical tape and there is also a silver wire (ground ? ), that is inside the shielding that is now exposed ... i dont know if this would have any effect on my tach ?

the other thing i was thinking of doing was just buying a cdi box and getting a new tach to hook up to that instead of dealing with all this... i was thinking of going with the crain hi 6 and using it on my leading

i just hope my trailing coil is ok but at this point im just confused, i also have to fix my speedometer..that isnt turning on

Faulty coils, faulty plugs, faulty plug wires, faulty wiring, faulty solder points.

That should about cover it!

Have you checked the connection behind the gauge cluster? Maybe it's just loose...

Check the resistance of the trailing coil too, see if it's in spec, also hook up something to it to read rpm while the car is running and see if it is steady or if it's erratic, that might lead you to the answer of its condition.

Fix the CAS wires with more than electrical tape, like butt-connectors or soldering...

Speedo is cable and i had a similar problem with my tach we checked everything trailing coils crank sensor connections etc etc turns out i had a bad wire from my ecu to coils so we rewired a different wire from ecu to the coils. Good luck man

Yes, and it's been accomplished for years now. And you're here, why, again?

Oh right, your dumb *** thought I was talking about you. I commented in reference to the thread starter, whom I've personally spoken with several times btw.

I assume you can see your way out of our conversation.
