Tach problem

Anybody know if the tach is just cable driven or does it have any electronic elements to it? My tach works sometimes and other times not. I was thinking it was my other electrical problems but thought maybe it was just strictly cable driven. Do you think maybe I have broken a tooth off of it and when I turn off the car at a dead spot on the gear it wont read? Any help appreciated!

I just put an S4 TII engine in my GSL-SE and both were electronic. The tach would cut out some times. It turned out that the trailling coiled wasn't grounded properly.

There's no such thing as a cable-driven tach...

The tach is driven off the trailing coils. Check to see the plugs for the trailing coil pack are clean and secure.
