tach hook up

Hi guys
This might be a subject that has been asked in the past and I guess it is very basic, but I have a second gen (88 N/A) and would like to know, to hook up an after market (electronic) tach. Will any tach work ??? or can I take any one on the market and hook it up a certain way to make it work ???
Thank's for your input and help
J-P

Use the trailing coil signal (the leading double hits each cycle).

If you have a wiring diagram, you can find the tach output wire on the trailing coil and then tap into that wire. I believe its orange with white stripe.

make sure you set the tac to a four-banger (if it has that option)
