Question Tach goes to zero and get 2 beeps rep...

For 88se na automatic.

Hi, Several problems or all related?? Recently when starting as car fires up my tach goes to zero and stays there. I also get two beeps repeatedly whenever the car is moving whether in forward or reverse but quiet when stopped and just idling. I didn't think to shift to neutral when moving to see if that would cut out the beeping. After shutting down and restarting the tach again functions normally.

Something else that's recent sometimes is loss of AWS when cold starting. It's almost like the BAC trys to keep it running by itself after it starts but no 17 sec at about 2800-3000 RPM. Also it's been flooding on warm start fairly often, if I catch it in time all that's need is for me to give it partial throttle as turn the key to start. Once started the BAC does usually keep it going but sometimes I rev the engine up and the BAC just let's idle down to 200 RPM or less. Stalling out of course unless I again catch it and rev it up a couple times then it settles down to a normal idle.
I realize that intermittants are hard to diagnose. Because both these problems are associated with starting what should I check? Are the AWS and BAC different in start mode from run mode and are they in anyway related to the tach beep-beep thing?
Thanks for your attention to this.

Please read the FAQ for FC sticky thread found at the top of the 2nd gen RX-7 Technical section before posting. It has the answers to many commonly asked questions, such as the one you started this thread with.

If you head read that you would have seen that 2 beeps are your power steering computer saying that it is not getting a signal that the engine is running. Since the power steering computer and the tach both get their signal from the trailing coil, the lack of both is a good indicator that your trailing coil is malfunctioning or that there is a wiring problem at it.

All your run related problems point to the trailing coil pack not working correctly.

Hi Icemark, I did check before posting. I didn't know if that beep signal about PS would have anything to do with the tach and/or the AWS or BAC. Some of the FSM links in FAQ get me to pages that lock my computer up when they get to the pdf stuff. I'll try a different trailing coil setup from my parts car. But the question about the AWS-BAC things don't seem to be related. Should I start another thread as that doesn't seem to tie into the tach-beep thing.
Thanks for quick response.

Yeah, see the ECU also references the Trailing coils summed signal so if it is not seeing a signal (on the S5) it can think there is something up with the motor. I would suspect that there is nothing happening with the AWS (you can unplug it to confirm).

I might also try cleaning the BAC... it maybe sticking and that causing some of the work/not working thing

Update; Put in trailng coil from my parts car, just have to wait and see if tach thing happens again. As far AWS-BAC goes, I retimed engine, timing was advanced some. reset idle with warm engine with BAC unplugged and also reset mixture control. Idle was closed too much and BAC was having to provide most of the air. I'll take BAC off next week and clean but for now the flooding on warm start is gone!
