Tach acting up

Tach acting up
ok i had to jump start my car. then after i did my tach didnt work so i took off the 3 10mm bolts and looked at the wires and etc etc... Then it worked! But as soon as i put it back on the braket it stops working ???? So what the hell is going on. So i just laid it in there and it worked but it wasnt accurate Could someone plz help. Thx

My view of things...........neither coil assy will work unless the body of the coil assy is grounded. Period.
The TRAIL coil assy gives the tach the signal to make the tach work.
See if the TRAIL coil assy is working by taking a plug wire out of the bore of the coil and starting the car. A large spark should leap b/t the wire and the bore if you hold the wire within at least a inch of the bore.
If the spark is there, then I'd start by looking at the connection at the tach itself. Sometimes just rappiing on the face of the gauges will bring the tach back to life. If so, fix the loose/corroded connection.
