t2 transmission in n/a? question?

im announcing plans to go tII. formally.
flipping through kevin landerseses site, he says that to use the tII tranny, i have to swap out the entire driveline. ive not heard of this before. is it true? my tranny grinds in 3rd already, i dont think it would survive a turbo for long (not with how i drive anyways)
do i really have to swap the entire driveline!?

The driveshafts are different, either buy a custom and keep the n/a rear (bad idea), or replace it all (good idea).

I've got a TII drivetrain in a N/A with the N/A rear. Also used the TII shaft (everyone assumes I didn't use it. And all this was a 5 speed conversion. Anythings possible if you do a few modifications. But if its already 5 speed. And you use the entire drivetrain from the flywheel to the rear diff then it will bolt right up!

so to use the TII tranny in a N/A you only need the tranny and associated parts (flywheel, ect) and the drive shaft?

Only if you want to go drilling through the driveshaft or the flange, which increases the chance of failure. Otherwise, it won't work.

You do have to drill the flange. But its easy. Just make sure you use a powerful drill because its really tough metal. Really tough metal. And what do you mean by failure? The shaft lines up and stays put right at the hub. So it stays perfectly straight while you drill through the shaft holes into the flange. The TII shaft bolt holes will put your hole about 1/8 inch from the edge of the flange. But it will hold fine. After drilling through that metal for about 30 minutes you'll have full faith in the strength of the flange.

Mazdatrix sells a driveshaft that connects the TII tranny to the NA rear end. $287 new, I believe.
