T2 swap need t2 drivtrain?

ok i want to do a t2 swap into my 86 N/A

I know i am going to need the Hood, ECU, and Wiring harness, and of course the engine

But this will be my daily driver, and the only mods i am looking to do are exhaust, and intake, and maybe in the future a nos system.

What i want to know is do i need a t2 drivetrain or can the stock 86na drivetrain be ok for daily driver?

The NA drivetrain usually doesn't start breaking on a regular basis until you get the the 230hp level. Of course, it also depends on how you drive the car.

You will also need the TII power brake booster, pressure sensor, and maybe a few other things.

I know that everybody gets upset when this is mentioned, but I feel that it is my duty to warn you...

It is almost always cheaper and easier to sell your non-turbo car and buy a TII. The price difference between the two is about $1,000, which will not only save you work, but will also get you ALL of the heavy-duty TII components, which is an especially good deal if your NA has the 4-lug wheels and no LSD. No, your insurance will not go up if you get a TII.

OK, I've said it, now do what you want.

I would recomend going with the TII drivetrain, unless you don't mind spending $ on broken parts.

Hehehe, my 20B car used to be an NA. That is why I always tell people not to convert. It was one of the most stupid things that I have done with a car, as I would have actually saved several hundred dollars by selling my NA and getting a TII instead. My friend did all the labor for free while I was out of the country, and I STILL think that it was a stupid idea after the fact. At least I learned from my mistake. The way I see it, you can learn from the mistakes of others, or you can learn from your own. I guess you learn best from your own mistakes, but the tuition is a lot higher.

No, that's a good question. I meant 230bhp at the flywheel, but like I said, it depends a lot on how you drive the car. I know people who tear up NA transmissions with 146bhp at the flywheel. I would imagine that you could run a lot more HP than that if you drove it well. Besides, it's really the torque that breaks things, not the HP. BTW, 3rd gear seems to be the first thing to go for some reason. My recommendation is not to convert to start with, but if you do, then to be on the safe side you should get a TII drivetrain if you add any mods besides intake and exhaust.

In my area, a used NA M5 transmission is $50-150, and a full race rebuild at the leading IT/EP race prep shop is under $300.
