t2 stock turbo

I'm looking at buying a t2 but it needs a new turbo. Does anyone know how much one costs, what about a rebuild? aslo does anyone have one that they would want to part with? the car has 126000 km(about 78000mi) and I can pick it up for like 3400can(2100us) the rest of the car is MINT.

go to:

engine drivetrain section always has about one floating around. used your looking anywhere from 100-350 depending on miles and if it includes the manifold.

new, dont buy one. you could get a new t04e for the price of one.

I have one from a series 5 TII (89+) with around 30K miles on it. There is no play in the wheels and it includes a manifold from a S5 as well. The series 5 turbo and manifold are better than the series 4 turbo and manifold. Neither the turbo or manifold have any cracks. Comes with a turbo to manifold gasket. It is selling for $350 and is listed on the parts trader.

If i by the car I will be interested in your turbo. Is that 350(can)? what is the difference between the 87-88 tubos and the 89+ units?

That is $350USD. The 87-88 turbo's had that twin scroll thing on the manifold. It was good for a bit of lower rpm spool up but that made if suffer badly in the higher rpm's. The earlier turbo's also had a pretty shabby wastegate which was prone to boost creep, where as the 89+ turbo's were much better at not doing this. Plus they ran about 2lbs more boost =)

would I need a different ecu to handle the extra two pounds of boost? Also does the price sound fair for an 87 with the turbo not working?

The ECU in it will work fine. That seems to be a good price if it is in that good of shape with the exception of the turbo. They sell for more than that here in fair condition.

I know, usually a good NA goes for 3500-4000 and this guy is selling like it's an NA because the turbo is not working.
