Overheating???

My car overheats when I drive at high rpmīs. When I drive it at 4000rmp max there is no problem. (except that it is boring) temp-gauge stays at 1/3. When I drive it hard (red-line etc) temp-gauge goes up fast to a bit above 1/2 and stays there. This also happens when I turn on the airco. City and highway is the same. I had my precats gutted. Car is faster now but no change in temperature problem. I also retarded timing (still a bit advanced) but that didnīt help either. The car doesnīt seem to spill or burn coolant. The radiator, condensor and oilcooler are all clean. Outside temperature doesnīt seem to have much effect either. Oil levels are at maximum. I think the problems started when I added some two-stroke oil to the gas. Iīve stopped doing that but the problem is still there. Could fouled plugs have something to do with this problem???
If my coolant was bad wouldnīt I have the problem allways instead of only at hard driving???

Marco.

Sounds a bit like your water pump is going south. sounds like a problem i had with my old Mercury, the safe RPM/temp drifted lower and lower until the pump granaded and then the coolent went all over.

doesn't sound like your running hot at all my temp gauge rutenely goes 3/4 up and that's still normal operation. remember that the 86-88 cars had the more accurate temp gauge that as long as your not running in the red you should have no problem
