T2 LIM on a 6-port. Question about previous post. Unable to find.

I have searched and searched. I saw pictures before of someone on here that took a T2 LIM and filled it with some type of solder, then ported it out to fit the 6-port block.

I have a few months before I will be trying to put the manifolds on, so I would like to find that post. I am guessing I need some type of solder that will hold up to high heat and not leak if overheated.

Use JB kwik (not weld) for the filling stuff and port the rest out with a dremel/die grinder. I think its rated to 300*F, thats what I've used for the last 8000 problem-free miles.

I was going to try it, but I read that you don't make as much power as with the six port.

Thanks Japan2LA. Price is a little steep for me. If I can do it myself I will. Your products look amazing though! If I pooch this one, I'll buy another and end up sending it your way.

I understand why the price is as much as it is, quality.

Thanks again guys!

Far right shows the turbo manifold and the non turbo Gasket.

Second from the right shows non turbo gasket laid over the turbo manifold.

Second from the left shows????? I think I colored those areas in to show someone how much needs to be cut out on the turbo manifold.

Far left is the solder filling the Blue areas in the other pictures.

I filled the intake holes with sand. Lots of paper first then the sand over the last part near the area to be filled. Uses a propane torch and a metal cup. Melted the solder.......poured the solder as just one pouring so it'd be one mass of solder.

Cooled down and cleaned up the area around the intake holes and filed the solder level with the intake face. Something like that. I dilly dalled with that for over a year 'cause there was nothing wrong with the engines in the cars I have. Did it for UNKNOWN reasons, even to me. Just something to do. Been driving it for two yrs. Passes state inspections and another inspection coming up....when I feel like getting it and not before.

I shoulda poured the solder prior to gutting out the intake area. I THINK I did it assbackwards. Fill the BLUE area first.

For an intake gasket I made my own out of gasket paper from AutoZone. The thick stuff with rubberization in it. New word..rubberization.

It was common plumbers solder that you use to connect copper pipes. Like the kind you use to install a new hot water heater with. I gave the name in one of those earlier posts. HomeDepot type stuff.

I remember one post where the guy asking replied that his father said it would melt. Uh, no it won't and if it did, the engine would be toast if the intake ever got up to the melting range of that solder. After all, it's a INTAKE manifold with cold air going thru it.

IF I find that post or actually get up and walk twenty yards and look at the roll of solder, I'll give a further reply. I'm not moving for a while though.

This thread and on the second page. I didn't read it all again. I'm looking at a roll of that solder and the paper tag is missing but imbossed on the plastic spool the solder is wrapped around, it has "OATEY". Says it has 95% tin, 5% antimony.

I remember looking it up online and finding the melting figure given in the link above.

I think I'd buy a roll that had the 95% tin on it. Others have 50//50 other *stuff* in 'em.
