I think that depends on if it's a steel or aluminum hood.

Is it aluminum or steel? There is a carbon fiber one on craigslist right now for like $600.00 i think. I don't think anyone here would pay more than a couple hundred bucks for one.

The latch on the aluminum hoods is riveted. Did they make steel TII hoods? I've never seen one.

I'm 90% sure that the did make a steel TII hood as well as an aluminum one.

You can 100% sure now. I have a steel T2 Hood

I think it's only the early 87s that could have the steel hood, the rest I have seen are aluminum....lucky bastards.

No, that is incorrect.

Turbo steel hoods were randomly used through out the FC production and used extensivly in body shops.

If your car was in a wreck, chances are it will have a steel hood unless you had an owner that knew better.

But series had little to do with what Mazda used. Mazda used alumn until they ran out and then switched to steel, and then back to alum when the alum hoods came back in stock at the suppliers.

Remember the S4 FC sold radically more than Mazda expected and production issues like using steel instead of alum was more common, but since the S5 radically undersold (must have been the lame tail lights ) there often were production issues of the opposite type (of having to use what was in the factory at Hiroshima- before ordering more parts).

I would say that Steel TII hoods are still pretty rare...

You would be hard pressed to find a steel TII hood on an S5 car that is stock (no repairs/replacements) I have seen an 87 with a steel scouped hood. But no other year of TII have i seen with one yet anyway.

But with how much owners molest thier FCs its hard to find a truly stock car any more....

Personally I get them from local junkyards for about 50 and sell for about 200 (TII aluminum hoods) the tii alum hoods more easily found around here than the N/A aluminum hoods. Took me over a year to find one of thoese for under 100$. But I had bought two TII alum hoods for 50$ and sold both in that time for 200$

When I am in a junkyard and ganking hoods off FCs (i only take the aluminum ones if the price is right) the weight is usually a dead give away but if you dont have experince with both just grab a loose car speaker and use the magnet.

As far as how much they are worth; spend more than 200$ and you are getting ripped off unless it perfectly matches your car then it might be worth more to you.

I have an '87, but I switched over to an aluminum TII hood for free. Now I'm going to trade it off for an aluminum N/A hood. So I can cut it up for my V-mount setup.

Nope... they look like a 87-88 T-bird which had the same exact style (round lights-hidden by the plastic, and a band of black or red plastic at the bottom- the only thing different is Mazda used a Yellow Turn signal lens, while Ford used Red)... I remember saying in late 88 when I saw the first 89 that Mazda made the tail lights look like a lame ford Tbird.

But most of the people here are too young to even remember the old T-birds, so they think they look cool.

I'm pretty young considering mark can remember when the s5 came out but....

At first I loved the s5 tails
then later I liked the 10AE painted style after seeing a local guys who had a red car w/ painted red surrounds
then i got out of my 10AE stage and liked the s5's again.

now I have a s4 t2 that I love, and honestly I think it looks great in daytime and at night, the black surround and everything. But the reason I love my car other than being turbo is that its a white s4 and I think that the white/black looks badass, so this is just more white/black.

S5 tails are still cool, but I don't mind the s4's one bit, they look pretty good at night to boot
