what type of reliability problems do you guys encounter, cause i'm scared of getting a t2 because of all the horror stories i hear of rx7's in general. i LOVE the car, i'm really close to my $$$ goal so maybe i'll have a t2 soon just need some little more research since i know nothing of the rotary.

I wouldn't say there are any reliability problems hardly. Mostly maintence problems and lack there of. If the car was not maintained before you or you don't maintain it correctly, then you will have problems. Say you started out with a properly rebuilt engine and maintained it religiously. You shouldn't have many problems at all, and especially not any major ones.

I've owned 6 RX-7's total, granted this is my first T II, I've always used them as daily drivers, I've found that as long as you stick to mods that help the engine(exhaust/air filter/e-fan) you should have no problem. Now that is a different story when you get into the turbo, once them mods are done your turbo wants to open up more and push your engine, that is when you run into problems. As long as things are looked at as a whole when it comes to mods..you should'nt have any problems, all of my previous 7's had well over 100,000 miles when I sold them, and they were still running hard.

Reliability problems...hmmm...well since it's just another car, it's going to have the same wear and tear as any other given daily driver.
To give you an idea of the things i've had to do since i've owned it and drove it daily:
82K ->Replaced TPS (throttle position sensor)
86K ->Replaced stock clutch
94K ->Replaced that filter attatched to the base of the fuel pump
95K ->Forced to replace the mufflers to pass state inspection
Nothing too serious. Just little oddities here and there that can generally be figured out by myself or with the help of the board here. Some of the best advice I could give you is, search for "what to look for TII buying". It's been covered several times before and you should be able to find all the info you need to make your purchase a good one. Do not expect a perfect car. If someone made a perfect car, they'd be out of business.

I bought my car with 184,000 miles on it. Now it has 186,000 miles on the original engine. I would say thats pretty reliable. I had to replace the breakpads first and then maintenced it. As long as you change the oil enough you should be fine. I change mine out every 500-800 miles and it runs great. All it needs now is the struts and shocks and I'm good to go!
Just maintance it all the time and check the oil everyday. You should be fine man. Turbo II's are great to drive and look sweet!
Got to love them.

Relax on the changes, I think 1500 is exsessive but fair .. 2000 is right on for a turbo, but hey its your car... what ever works for ya.
Edit: Do you relize that at the middle road of your remarked oil changes (650 miles) You have changed the oil in your car 286+ times since it was new! ... you need a hobby

drive my 87 TII about 75 miles each day. Yeah I spend tons of money on gas but hell, thats the trade-off for daily driving excitement. I recently bought a 95 FD w/ a blown motor, hoping to get that fun soon. Fd will be daily driver while the FC will go full blown S5 turbo + manifold, street port, and RE front kit with GP side skirts.

My '87 TII has 233K miles on it. It's on it's second engine but it runs great, and I drive it EVERY day. As for the oil changes....I go 3000 to 3500 miles. I think all those other recs. are excessive unless you have some serious mods or just alot of time/money to waste. As for checking the oil every day. On my almost stock TII I don't have to add any oil between oil changes at 3000 miles.

I can understand a collector car.. a race car.. but seriously we're talking about a car that gets a sweet price of what 5grand range for a TII? Drive it.. it's a car...
I don't drive mine every day though.. if I don't work .. and don't need anything I won't leave it stays cozy in the garage

i drove mine everyday, and it broke down occasionally, mostly due to flooding.
It has leaky injectors. Another problem was the TPS, which I adjusted, the logicon was replaced, the drivers side window switch broke.
It has been a good car to me and I love it. Its so much fun to drive. For a whole year it was my only car, and now I bought a Mazda 626 that I am going to drive this winter and days when its raining or just dont need/want the RX-7.
If you are looking at a T2, I strongly reccomend it, but take into account the electrical stuff that always breaks and the possiability of blowing the motor since its an older car
*** WOULD LIKE TO ADD: wait till you find the right one there are a lot of pieces of **** out there. Its better to pay more in advance than paying for it later. Also, GET A RED ONE My friend has a black T2 and red is so much better looking. All sports cars should be red...

I drive my mildly modified 89 TII every day, id trust it driving in any temperature, to any location.
I wouldn't think twice about driving it across the country, except maybe for the sake of my hearing
