Synthetic SAE 50 vs. Synthetic SAE 60
anyone have experience with single weight oils? i am using the 50 weight right now in my TII (mop is blocked off and im running premix) but now i see a 60 weight of the same brand im using....whats the difference? what would 60 weight even be good for? maybe heavy duty engines or higher temperatures? Any thoughts. not a chem engineer so i have no idea.

The reason I ask is that racing oil should not be used for street driving as it lacks the necessary detergents. 50 wt is to be used with extremely high temperstures, and 60 wt for supercharged, alcohol engines. There is a 70wt also top alcoho/pro modified. Best to stick with the generic 20/50 Castrol. I use Rotella 15-40.

Single weight 50 is way way too thick for starting unless you are keeping your engine at 130*F+.
I can't imagine the amount of wear that is happening starting a cold engine with that high of weight oil.
And a 60W??? wow are you seeing outside air temps above 145F when starting and running the vehicle??? Where are you??? Venus???
