Symptoms of a bad tranny/diff mounts?
Well lately every time I shift I hear a metallic thump/clunk from under the car. This happens when I let off the clutch after the car has been put into the gear I select. Is there any way to tell by doing a visual inspection? What should I look for? Are the mounts hard to replace? I'm doing an engine oil/diff oil change tomorrow so I'll be under the car to look.

Is it while you're letting the clutch out that you hear the noise, or after, once you start accelerating again? Is there some jerkyness associated with the noize? If it's after the clutch is engaged and when you get back on the gas it's probably a diff mount. If it's from the rear then definetely check the front diff mount, as it's known to break and cause a metallic clunking sound. Other than that it could be an engine or transmission mount, but that's unlikely.

clunking during gear changes like reverse etc... is diff mount. usually when the trans mount starts going bad you will get vibrations inside the car when you rev the engine, even in neutral.

clunk. clunk jerk jerk
sounds like a diff mount to me. I have the same problem
real easy to figure out go under the car and reach up to the front snout of the differential and push up. watch if move up fairly easily.
problem is it shouldn't
